Utopia

Dedicated to the dual concept of a non-place and nowhere land but also a land of health and happiness, Thomas More’s famous book was published for the first time by a prominent citizen of Aalst called Dirk Martens. Utopia. That is the name adopted by the Library and Academy for Performing Arts in the Belgian city. The countless meanings that the term has acquired over time are a soundtrack, in the form of music and voices, to any visit to the building. The inspired expansion project, involving an 8,000m2 brickwork structure incorporating the existing Pupillenschool building from the 1800s, is by Kaan Architecten. And this short film is part of the Dutch firm’s series Minuten, which puts a video interpretation of all their works on a single platform.
