In corso d'opera. Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber: il Cantiere-evento di Milano

This documentary is dedicated to the complex reconstruction of the old Teatro Lirico in Milan – now named after Giorgio Gaber – between 2016 and 2021. For those five years, the restoration work of the firm Garibaldi-Fragasso and the Milan municipal authorities, with technical support from Mapei, was the centre stage of the “Cantiere-evento” programme conceived and promoted by the Gianfranco Dioguardi Foundation. The film sets the scene, tells anecdotes and uses the direct testimony of the people involved to narrates the story of this brand-new experience combining art, technology, engineering, architecture, culture and showbiz. From artists, models, violins and performance to scaffolding, construction workers, hammers and demolition, the Teatro Lirico di Milano site can serve as a benchmark for the construction industry - an all-Italian example of best practice - allowing us to reconsider the role of building sites and elevate them temporarily to be part of a city’s cultural and architectural heritage.
